QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

When do I pay?

All monies are to be paid on booking.

When is the booking complete?

If you want an EDSA itinerary or specially designed package, send your request on-line or by E-mail or fax. EDSA will respond with an offer as appropriate. After EDSA has received the deposit amount the booking is complete.

In case no show

In case of no show, you lose the initial deposit.

What if I have a special request?

If you want something else besides the EDSA itineraries, you simply respond on-line, send an E-mail or fax stating your special desires. EDSA will respond with an offer which you have to confirm. After the Initial deposit is paid the booking is done.

Who do I travel with

You have a choice of traveling alone or request EDSA to find a group that you can join. But group tours require at least one month notice in advance. When traveling alone, you are in the company of our Driver/Guide but it is normal for EDSA’s clients to join tourists from other companies when in the Park or other destination points.

Time

Uganda is GMT + 3 hours.

Transport

Most major Airlines have arrivals at Entebbe, the International Airport. These are SN Brussels, British Airways, KLM, Kenya Airways, Gulf Air, Emirates, Alliance Air, Ethiopian Airlines, South African Airways, Egypt Air. Etc.

Visas & Passports

A valid passport is required for entry clearance. Visitors from PTA and COMESA countries, Libya and Ireland are exempt from visa requirement. Visas are obtainable at the port of entry at a fee of US$ 30.

What to buy or bring

The EDSA Itineraries run through beautiful scenery and captivating moments. Bring a camera and a pair of binoculars.

While on the EDSA itineraries buy souvenirs, to take back to your loved ones and for your memories when you get home. There is a plentiful selection of handicrafts all over the country. In every village local people are skilled in creating colorful arts and crafts, both traditional and modern, which are hand worked to a very high standard. Many of the items are useful, but all of them are items of beauty with patterns and colors that reflect local cultures.

People and Culture

Uganda society is still predominantly rural, 80% of the population live in the country side. Traditional customs and lifestyles are still alive in many parts, adding spice to tourism. There are 37 local languages spoken across Uganda.

Flora and Fauna

Uganda is a country of exceptional diversity. It lies at the overlap between tropical East African savannah and the West African rainforest zones. Seven of Africa’s 18 plant kingdoms are represented in Uganda, which is more than any other country on the continent. The tropical rain forests of Western Uganda have unique flora and fauna, some of which are endangered species.

Money

The currency of Uganda is the Ugandan Shilling in denominations of Ush50, 000; Ush20, 000; Ush10, 000; Ush5, 000 and Ush1, 000 currency notes. Coins for lesser denomination are also available. Enroute the EDSA Itineraries, most payments are in local currency. You can pay in US Dollars, Sterling pounds and Euros in some Hotels.

Climate

Uganda lies on the Equator but the temperatures around the year are moderated by the high altitude and range from 20C and 28C. There are two rainy seasons: March to May and October to November.

Clothing

On the EDSA Itinerary, you are better off with cotton clothing which is light and comfortable. If your itinerary includes Gorilla tracking make sure you do not wear bright colors on that day. You need to select colors like green, dark grey, or brown that will blend with the natural forest environment.

Medical advice

Most towns traversed by EDSA have modest medical facilities, but we recommend that medical insurance is written before your departure. Take the usual doses of prophylactics to prevent malaria which is encountered in certain times of the year. For own comfort take a mosquito repellant. Bilharzia is present in some of our water bodies, so swimming is not recommended except in designated areas. We recommend that only boiled or bottled water is drunk. In hotels and lodges there will be flasks of drinking water.

Electricity

240 Voltage.

Security

After ten years of stability, Uganda is now a relatively safe country. However, it is sensible to take the same precautions that you would in any foreign country where you are a guest. Do not carry large rolls of money. Do not walk in deserted areas at night. Be aware all the time of pick pockets
